Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Homer Methodist church with Rev. C. E. Johnston, pastor of the Homer church, and Rev. A. A. Belyea of the First Methodist church of Urbana officiating.

Members of Homer IOOF lodge had charge of services at the grave in GAR cemetery. Members of the lodge who served as pall bearers were Warren Satterfield, Harlin Taylor, Reimer Witt, Roy Lee, Herman Stevens and Richard Osborne. The following Rebekahs were in charge of flowers: Mrs. Eugene Danner, Mrs. Dick Clutter, Mrs. H. V. Mr. Palmer was a member of the Homer IOOF lodge for 73 years and was a charter member of the Rebekah lodge.

Although retired from business since 1925, Mr. Palmer had continued to lead an active life. On Thursday before he became ill he painted a fence and drove his automobile to the Urbana business district and back.

Born Feb. 2, 1858, on a farm north of Homer, Mr. Palmer was the son of Ellis and Mary Butler Palmer, pioneer Champaign county residents. He was married Nov. 5, 1882, to Nancy Ellen Brown, and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last year. They moved into Homer in 1888, when he entered the grocery business as a partner of N. C. Barnes.

In October of 1889, A. L. Lyons and Mr. Palmer formed a partnership and operated a general store in Homer under the name of Lyons and Palmer. While still operating the Homer business, he opened a grocery store on the northwest corner of Main and Race streets in Urbana in 1911.

Mr. Palmer, his brother Roy, and son Lon V., were associated in the Urbana store until John Palmer's retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer moved from Homer to Urbana in 1924.
Active in the Modern Woodmen and 100F lodges for many years, Mr. Palmer held offices in both organizations. He also was an active member of the Methodist church and served as Sunday school superintendent of the Homer church for a number of years.

Mr. Palmer leaves his wife, his son Lon, at home; two granddaughters, Mrs. John F. O'Neill, Champaign, and Mrs. Nolan Craver, Homer; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand child and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Palmer was the last surviving member of a family of six children. A daughter, Mrs. Dollie Jurgensmeyer, died in 1922.

Among those from out-of-town who attended the funeral services here Monday were Mrs. Belle Lynch McElroy and her daughter, Mrs. Opal Mallory, Sidney; Mrs. Minford Brown, son Paul, and her granddaughter, Goshen, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Logan Jones and three sons, Alexander, Ind.; Will Clemens and Mrs. Mary Pollard, Urbana, and Mr. and Mrs. John F.
