Oregonian, Wed. Oct. 13, 1954, s. 6M, p. 23:4. John Perry, 85, who was fire commissioner for Portland in 1912 when the change from horse-drawn to motorized fire engines was made, died Tuesday afternoon at his home at 3134 S.E. Lincoln st. Mr. Perry, a native of Cornwall, England, who came to Portland when he was 17 years old, had been in ill health a year and had been living in retirement 30 years. During his active years in business, he owned bakeries, although he was not himself a baker. Among the establishments he operated were the old Portland bakery on S.W. 1st ave., and the Royal Bakery. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Elsie Rose Perry, and a son, Miles John Perry.
