Charles L. Bevins

FREEMAN - Charles Lawrence Bevins, 79, of Box 263 (Coaldale), Freeman, died Tuesday, September 2, 1997, at a Bluefield hospital.

Born on May 1, 1918, in Bristol, Tenn., he was a son of the late Alvin Pierce and Ida Fulton Bevins.

He had been a resident of Coaldale for 50 years and was of the Protestant faith. He was a retired coal miner having worked in the mine for 25 years and was a member of the UMWA. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a former Prisoner of War.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Louise Hughes, and three brothers.

Survivors include: five sons, LIVING; one brother, Eddie Bevins and wife Jane of Pageton; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Nellie) Davidson of Coaldale; 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 1997, at 10 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Scott Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial park in Bluewell where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Sandy River District of the American Legion Post 175 and the Mercer County Veterans Council.
