At the age of 18 she was baptized into the Freewill Baptist church of which she was a faithful member. She was united in marriage to William Albert Blanton December 23, 1890. To this union 13 children were born, 8 girls and 5 boys.
Mrs. Blanton came to Roger Mills County with her family in 1903 and homesteaded 3 miles southwest of Cheyenne, living there until 1933, returning to the site of her homestead many times since. In the year of 1947 she was added to the Church of Christ in Lubbock, texas.
Her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Elsie Martin, and two sons, Jasper and Elmer, who died in infancy, preceded her in death. She is survived by the following children:
Mrs. Gertie Barksdale, Amarillo, Texas; Mr. Burrell Blanton, Arvin, California; Mrs. Agnes Casady, Cheyenne, Oklahgoma; Mrs. Grace Bickerstaff, Slayton, Texas; Mrs. Edna Polk, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Essie Bales, Kansas City, Missouir; Mrs. Ovie Forkner, Lubbock, Texas; Mr. Sherman Blanton, Liberal, Kansas; Mr. Frank Blanton, Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Mrs. Opal Cummings, Lubbock, Texas. All were present for the funeral except two. 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Verona Blanton were conducted at the Church of Christ in Cheyenne Monday afternoon with Rev Dub Stewart and Rev Bill Trent officiating. Burial was in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Oklahoma under the direction of the Scroggins Funeral Home.
