BUTLER, ALBERT—Albert Butler, son of Herbert and Jemima Butler, was born August 27, 1885, in Sheffield, Ind. As an infant he was baptized in the Lutheran church.
February 27, 1911, he was married to Edna Cavanaugh at Sheridan, Wyo. To this union were born two daughters, Bonita (Mrs. Ralph Hitch) of Pleasanton, Cal., and Wynona (Mrs. Robert Buchanan) of Hermiston, Ore.
He served as Burlington agent at Strang from 1923 to 1957, when he retired after serving 42 years, five months. He and Mrs. Butler made their home in Geneva after his retirement.
Prior to becoming permanent agent at Strang, Mr. Butler served as agent at Peru and many other points in Nebraska and at Hollis, Kas. While living in Strang, he served 26 years as clerk of the village board.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Geneva and received a 50 year membership pin from the lodge.
Mr. Butler was in poor health several years prior to his death at Geneva Sunday, February 19, 1961. He died at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 22 days.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister. He is survived by his widow, his two daughters and their husbands and three grandchildren, Sharon Hitch, Mary Jane Buchanan and Jack Buchanan. He also leaves a host of friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 22, at 2 p. m. at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva with Rev. Alden B. Sears officiating. Ralph Reemts of Geneva sang “Beyond the Sunset”, accompanied by Mrs. Willard H. Foster.
Pallbearers, members of the Geneva Masonic lodge were Guy Brown Jr., John Bixby, John Edgecombe, Kenneth Kimbrough, M. A. Nichols and Joe Turek. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
