BERNARDA ARMENDARIZ

CARLSBAD--A funeral Mass for Bernarda V. Armendariz, 94, of Third Street, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski of San Jose Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Grace church.

Friends may call 1-5 p.m. today at West Funeral Home and 6-9 p.m. today at Our Lady of Grace church.

West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bernarda Vasquez Armendariz died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at home. She was born Jan. 23, 1909, in Barstow, Texas, to Margarito and Quiteria Rodriquez Vasquez. She came to Loving from Amarillo, Texas. She met Luiz Armendariz, and they were married Feb. 15, 1934, in Carlsbad.

Bernarda was a homemaker and mother who loved to cook and watch over her grandchildren, having five generations in her family. She enjoyed listening to music--especially anthing with a saxophone in it--singing and dancing. Bernarda was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Erma Armendariz; and brothers, Luciano Vasquez and Manuel Vasquez.

She is survived by sons, Adolfo of Taft, Calif., Ruben and wife, Roslyn, of Albuquerque and Luiz of Los Lunas; daughters, Carmen Martinez and Juan of Loving, Maggie Lopez and Atanacio of Carlsbad, Delia Martinez and Jose of El Paso, Texas, Sulema Gomez and David of Yuma, Ariz., and Emma Gonzalez and Juan of Loving; brother, Jesus Vasquez of Carlsbad; and 41 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
