She was born February 28, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, to Ruth and Nelson Grover.
She received a Christian Baptism on March 23, 1930. Ellie grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she attended school. She was a cheerleader, member of the National Honor Society, and other social organizations, and graduated from Bowling Green High School with honors in 1946. Ellie graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Clothing and Textiles. She was a member of Delta Gamma in college and maintained membership in alumnae groups in later years. After graduating, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked at F&R Lazarus. Ellie returned to BGSU a number of years later to complete her certification in elementary education. Ellie met Leonard Puckett, Jr. at F&R Lazarus; they married in 1962 and relocated to Dallas, before settling in Beaumont, in 1972.
She worked as an elementary substitute teacher with the Beaumont Independent School District for many years. Ellie was an active and sustaining member of the Beaumont Symphony League as well as a member of P.E.O, Chapter EG. She was a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beaumont. At St. Andrews, she served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher, Elder, Session member, member and Chair of the Christian Education, Nominating, and Personnel Committees, and Day School Board. She routinely enjoyed providing edible treats for various church functions. Ellie's hobbies included cooking, cross stitch, sewing, reading, and traveling. Her favorite trip was to Israel and Petra to visit the Holy Land.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Grover Graham of Adrian, Michigan; son, Matt and his wife, Karen, of Round Rock; stepson, Mark and his wife, Dianne, of Georgetown; grandchildren, Bryan Puckett and his wife, Carrie, of Round Rock; and Lisa Puckett Davenport and her husband, Troy, of Georgetown; great-grandchildren, Allie Puckett, Brady Puckett, McKenzie Davenport, and Benjamin Davenport; and loving canine companion, Sasha.
Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Nelson; husband, Leonard; brother, Howard Allen Grover; and twin sister, Eileen Grover Gardiner.
Burial: Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
