Walter L Hatcher Sr: Walter Lee Hatcher Sr. 79. Of 504 N Kanawha St., Beckley, formerly of Mullens, was dead on arrival Friday at 07:54 am at a local hospital of natural causes.
Born March 27, 1905, in Spanishburg, he was the son of the late James William And Sarah Gadd Hatcher.
Mr. Hatcher was a resident of Beckley since 1977, was a member of the Primitive Baptist Faith, was a car man for the Norfolk & Western Railroad and the Old Virginia Railroad. He was a member of the brotherhood of the Railway Carmen of America & Canada.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maggie Crotty Hatcher, Feb 11 1975; three sisters Rebecca Dawson, Ethel Correl and Sylvia Morales.
Survivors include his second wife Ranie Velvo Walker Hatcher; a son William Lee Hatcher Jr. of Princeton; two daughters Louise McGinnis of Princeton and Beckley and Alice Street of Pearisburg, Ohio; a half brother Roy Hatcher of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Golda Ferris of El Paso, Texas, and Frances Gramm of Chambersburg, PA; a half sister Pearl Taylor of Charlotte North Carolina; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11a.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel in Beckley with Elders Dale Mills, Ernest Cradle, Dempsey Rakes and Murriel Lilly officiating. Grave side services will be at 2 p.m. in the Christus Section of Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Grandsons and friends will serve as Pallbearers.
