Funeral services for Laverne Counting, 74, of Eagle Butte will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 10:00AM MDT at the brown community building, Cherry Creek, SD with Fr. Matt Fallgren officiating. Music was provided by Camille Bagola and Daryl Whipple.
Burial will follow at the Episcopal Cemetery in Cherry Creek under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home of Mobridge. Casketbearers were Trevor Swan, Francis Swan, Ariana Swan, Jason White Horse, Samuel White Horse, and Yamni White HorseA procession will meet at the hill at 5:00PM Tuesday to the community building for wake services at 7:00PM MDT, Cherry Creek. Laverne Lavera (Eagle Chasing) Counting was born June 11, 1938 in Cherry Creek, SD to Narcisse and Grace (Little Bridge) Eagle Chasing. Laverne married Francis Leroy Straight Head and to this union two children were born, Donna Sue and Troy Dean. In 1985 Lavern married Franklin Counting.
Throughout her life Lavern had many accomplishments.
In 1964 she was a cook for the Cherry Creek Headstart, in 1977 a CHR for Cherry Creek, in 1983 a caregiver for the elderly and disabled, in 1990 she worked for the Elderly Nutrition Program and in 1991 she did DJT at the Children's Shelter in Eagle Butte.
She received on-the-job training for these many jobs. Through these many programs Laverne made many friends. She is remembered for her excellent baking and making papa. Lavern will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Laverne is survived by her sister Virginia White Feather, Dupree, SD; brothers Patrick Eagle Chasing and Ronald Eagle Chasing, Eagle Butte, SD; one daughter, Donna Straight Head, Cherry Creek, SD; one son, Troy (Nola) Straight Head, Eagle Butte, SD; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents Narcisse and Grace Eagle Chasing; husbands Francis Straight Head and Franklin Counting and one granddaughter, Alicia Straight Head.
