AMBELANG

Gladys Juanita Ambelang passed peacefully away July 4, 1992 into the arms of her maker at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa, after an extended illness.

She was born to John and Emma Carlson on August 8, 1915, in Lucas County, Iowa where she grew up and attended rural schools. She graduated from the Chariton High School with the class of 1932. She taught in rural schools for several years.

On December 29, 1939, Gladys was united in marriage to Nelson Ambelang. They were blessed with two children, Karen Emma and John Frederick.

At an early age, Gladys was baptized in the United Brethren Church. In 1945, Nelson and Gladys moved to Millerton where she joined the Millerton United Methodist Church. She attended services regularly, as long as her health permitted.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson, her parents, a sister, Mrs. Olga White and brother-in-law, Thomas White. Also a brother, Vernon Carlson and sister-in-law, Gracie Carlson and a brother-in-law, Harry Ballard.

Gladys leaves to mourn her daughter, Karen Pollock of Des Moines, son, John Ambelang and Jackie Barten of Allerton; grandchildren: David and Pharia Pollock of Murray, Dennis Pollock and fiancée, Lori Heath of Humeston; Steven and Vanessa Pollock of Chicago, Ill.; Ann and David Daughten of Corydon, and Kelly and Tim Cribb of Corydon.

Great-grandchildren: Kaitlen and Jacob Pollock, Kassie Cribb, and Josh and Julie Baines.

Others who mourn her passing are two sisters, Mildred Ballard and Arlene Carlson of Chariton; and one brother, Glenn Carlson and wife Anne of Mission Viejo, Calif., several nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Gladys was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was always helping and doing something for others. She loved to be near her children and grandchildren. She never complained of her suffering but put all in the hands of God. She will be sadly missed.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 1992, at the Fielding Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Hotle officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Richard Cox, Larry Cox, Dennis Pollock, David Pollock, Floyd Coulson and Steven Pollock.
