EMMA GUSTAVA CARLSON
Emma Gustava Carlson, daughter of John and Anna Erickson, was born in Sweden, May 14, 1873. She came to America with her parents at the age of nine years. They settled in Lucas county where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was baptized in the Lutheran church in Sweden and was confirmed in the First Lutheran church in Chariton at the age of 18.
During her long illness and suffering she patiently waited for her Savior to come and take her to her heavenly home which He gently did on Dec. 1, 1959, after she had reached the age of 86 years, six months and 16 days.
On Jan. 15, 1895, she was united in marriage to John A. Carlson, who preceded her in death April 13, 1951. Also preceding her in death were three children, two in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Olga White; a grandson, a granddaughter, two sisters, Anna and Alma, and two brothers, Carl and Walfred.
Those left to mourn their loss are her children: Mrs. Mildred Ballard of Chariton, Mrs. Gladys Ambelang of Millerton, Arlene Carlson at home, Vernon Carlson of near Williamson and Glenn of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one sister, Josephine Peterson of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Martin Erickson of Long Beach, Calif., and Erick Erickson of Denver, Colo., and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend, always willing to help in time of need; never complaining about her tasks for the day or her physical welfare. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 5, 1959. The Rev. Lester Carlson officiated, with interment in the Chariton cemetery.
