Nancy died on August 1, 1854, and after her death, on November 26, 1854, Lewis married his 2nd wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ball who was a widow. They had no children.
Lewis H. Little enlisted in Captain White's Company of Texas Volunteers during the Civil War. He died in the service of the Confederacy on April 20, 1862 in the State of Arkansas and is buried in Camp Nelson Confederate Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas. His will probated in Rusk County, Texas appoints his brother, James W. Little as legal guardian for his minor children.

Lewis Hogan Little and his oldest son, John Randolph Little, joined the Confederate Army on November 4, 1861. They were in Company C of the 32nd Texas Cavalry Regiment, Crump's Battalion, Mounted Volunteers, also incorrectly called the 15th Texas Cavalry Regiment. (They enlisted in the Confederate service from Rusk county, at Jefferson, Texas, 1861, Company C. Capt. John White's Co., Phillip Crump's Battalion, Texas Cavalry.)
Note at bottom of Muster Rolls: “*This company subsequently became Company C, 32nd Regiment, Texas Cavalry. The 32nd (also known as the 15th) Regiment Texas Cavalry was first organized November 4, 1861, as the 1st (also known as Crump’s) Battalion Texas Cavalry. It was increased to a regiment, by the addition of independent companies, and dismounted May 8, 1862.”
Their battalion, Crump's 1st Battalion Texas Cavalry, was at the Battle of Pea Ridge, but was not engaged in the battle.
Lewis and John were at Camp Nelson and apparently died from disease. Both died in April 1862, one week apart.
Soon after their death, Lewis' son, Samuel Miles Little (who had joined Captain R. S. Poole's Company, 2nd Regiment, Carter's Bridade, Texas Lancers on January 1, 1862), was marching towards Arkansas. He was captured at Arkansas Post, then exchanged, and continued to fight in many Civil War battles before his death in September 1864, including the Battle of Chicamauga and the Battle of Atlanta. (See Samuel's memorial page to read his story.)
Also, on June 30, 1862, another of Lewis' sons, James C. Jones Little joined the 19th Cavalry, Company H, and died in Rondo, Arkansas, in October 1862. (See James' memorial page to get the rest of his story.)
Sadly, Lewis and three of his sons all died while soldiers for the Confederacy of the State of Texas during the American Civil War.
