Obituary of Eli Berkey

Mrs.Ray Brubaker of Wakarusa, left Monday for Regina, Saskatch, Canada, in response to a telegram telling of the death of her father, Eli Berkey, 70, formerly of Harrison Township. Mr. Berkey was born northwest of Wakarusa, the son of Jacob and Mary Schrock Berkey. He married Emma Bixler of Wakarusa on Nov. 13th 1887.
Mr. and Mrs. Berkey lived on the Sam Hoover farm, northwest of Wakarusa in Harrison Township, until 1906, when they went to Canada to homestead. He leaves his wife and 10 children; Floyd Berkey and Mrs. Hettie McCarger of Kurkland , Wash.; Mrs. Brubaker of Wakarusa; George, Paul and Atley Berkey of British Columbia, Canada; Wilbur Berkey of Peoria, Il., and Glenn and Ed Berkey and Mrs. Cleo Robertson, all of Regina. Three sons, Joey Wheeler and the twin brother of Mrs. Robertson, preceded Mr. Berkey in death. He also leaves four brothers, Aaron and Henry of Wakarusa, Daniel, who lives in Penn township, St Joseph county, and Jacob Berkey of near Billings, Mont.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Mrs. Brubaker, who had not seen her parents for 18 years, will be the only attendant from Wakarusa.
