Richard Maloney was born in Ireland sometime in 1830 to Walter and Mary Maloney. He was the younger brother of Ellen A. Connor.
Richard was in the First Regiment C.V. Heavy Artillery Division serving in the Civil War from December 28, 1861-February 12, 1863. He was wounded July 1, 1862, in the battle at Malvern Hill, Virginia. He was discharged February 12, 1863 due to the wounds he received.
