Mrs. Willis L. Root. Funeral services for Stella LeClair Root, 85 of 92 Water St., widow of Willis Root, were held this morning at 11 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. The body was at the Phillips Memorial Home. Mrs. Root died in Massena Memorial Hospital at 2:10 o'clock Saturday afternoon, January 13, 1973. She had been a patient at the hospital for a period of nine days, then returned home on Friday, but became ill again Saturday morning adn was taken to the hospital where she died within a few hours. Surviving are one son, William Root, Jr., 92 Water St.; foru daughters, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Weitz, Syracuse, Mrs. Daniel (Anna) Dickerson, Washington, D.C., Mrs. A. Lincoln (Lena) Cooke, Clarkson Ave., Mrs. Carl (Rita) White, 29 Howard St.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, George LeClair, Rochester; three sisters, Mrs. Ovila J. (Virginia) Richey, Massena, Mrs. George (Mary) Miller, Plattsburgh, and Thomas (Salina) Tebo, Churubusco. Mrs. Root was born in Standish, Michigan, September 15, 1887, a daughter of Thomas and Odile Poupore LeClair. She lived in Michigan until she was 12 years old, when she moved with her family to Chateaugay. She and Willis Root, a native of Forest, New York, were married Christmas Day, 1908, in Churubusco. They moved to Massena from Churubusco in 1922. He died July 3, 1961, at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Root was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, member of the League of the Sacred Heart, Senior Citizens Club and the national senior citizens organization.
