G. H. Schellens Dies in Spain
GROTON — George Herman Schellens, 66, died yesterday at his summer home in Cadaques Province of Gerona, Spain. Mr. Schellens, a resident of Groton during his boyhood years, was the son of the late Pierre L. and Mary Louise Avery Schellens. He attended Groton Heights School and Norwich Free Academy and was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1915. Mr. Schellens served in World War I as a captain in the infantry. He was for many years engaged in public utilities and mining in Serbia and following the German invasion was appointed head of the American Red Cross in that country. He had been a resident of Paris since World War II. He is survived by his widow, the former Regina Saby of Paris, and two brothers, Pedro L. Schellens of 35 Broad St., Groton, and Eugene L. Schellens of Essex.
