Virginia Darlene (Hughes) Dzama, 78, died on September 28, 2005 at the Country Care nursing home. She was born August 18, 1927 to Walter L. and Vernie I. Hughes who ran a vital (organic) farm in Stromsburg, Nebraska. She attended Stromsburg High School, and following graduation, moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. There she worked for a bank and met her husband, Steven L Dzama, Jr., at a USO dance. Stephen, from Cleveland, Ohio, was attending Nebraska University while in the Navy. The couple moved to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, where Steve got a job with General Motors. But Virginia wanted to be closer to her parents, so she persuaded Steve to transfer to the GM plant in Kansas City. Later, she also worked for General Motors in the aircraft division, in Kansas City. Her parents, her husband, and her youngest son, Richard H., preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, son, daughter, and two grandchildren. She was very active in her church, Wyandotte United Methodist Church, and helped with service to the church board as well as the county election board.
