Civil War Union Army Officer. Comissioned 1st Lieutenant of Company D, 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Heavy Artillery (112th Pennsylvania Volunteers) on January 7, 1862. On September 10, 1862 he was promoted to Captain and commander of the unit, filling the vacancy casued when Captain David Sadler was promoted to Major. He led his compies through it's successive battles, and was wounded at the September 29, 1864 Battle of Chapin's Farm, Petersbirg, Virginia. While hospitalized from his wounds, his enlistment expired, and he was honorably discharged on January 9, 1865. He lived to be 92 year old.
