Funeral services for Sgt. Douglas Bannon, 19, who died in a Japanese prison camp in May, 1945 will be at 11 a. m. Friday at the Jacobson Family Mortuary. Burial will be in the veterans' plot of Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Sergeant Bannon had attended Franklin High School, had carried papers for The Oregonian, volunteered for service in February 1944, received his air training at Lowry Field, Colo. and Great Bend, Kan. He went overseas in February, 1945, as a top turret gunner in a B-29. He was on his ninth combat mission over Japan when his plane was lost in May, 1945. He was awarded the purple heart and air medal posthumously.
Surviving relatives are his mother, Mrs. Helen Bannon, 4834 S. E. 115th Avenue; two sisters, Helen Bannon, at home and Mrs. Wesley Hale, 5909 N. Curtis Avenue.
NOTE: Douglas attended Franklin, but transferred to Gresham High School. He graduated with the Class of 1943.
