Johnny Wilson was born on May 3, 1942 and had lived his entire life in Henderson County. He was united in Marriage to Betty Perdue on February 17, 1967. He devoted over 30 years of his life protecting others in law enforcement and fire and rescue. He served on the Athens Fire Department, Baxter Volunteer Fire Department and was currently a captain of the Shady Oaks Volunteer Fire Department. He was a field operations manager with the Virginia Hills Water Department until his retirement in December of 2004.

Johnny Wilson is remembered as a loyal friend who made every effort to help others. He was a man known for his devotion to his children and wife. He had a great love for his grandchildren who knew him as "papaw". Everyone who knew him well knew he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Erma Pearl Wilson and a sister Etta Lou Levassar. He passed away on Tuesday evening with a host of family by his side. He will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include his wife Betty Wilson of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, John Andrew and Shannon Wilson of Athens; daughters and son-in-law, Terisa and Philip Richardson of Athens, Shannon Morgan of Murchison; son, J. D. Wilson of Lindale; brothers A. T. Henry of Emory, J. W. Wilson of Athens; sister, Inez Raines of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Jared Mills, Adam Estes, James Graham, Jason Ramsey, Jeremy Scruggs, Louis Barrios, Bill Lee and Lindsey Perdue. Honorary pallbearers include Henderson County firefighters.
