He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack.
He married Vera Allen. They lived at Des Moines, Iowa, many years before moving to Newton in 1999. Mr. Baker was a mechanic for the Iowa Department of Transportation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are a son, John Baker of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were July 3 at the New Testament Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa, with the Rev. James Holmes officiating. Burial was in the Lowan Cemetery in Runnells, Iowa, under the direction of Wallace Family Funeral Home of Newton, Iowa.
