On October 10 1895 Jacob[je] Boxum, 24 years old, arrived with her father Albt. Boxum (51, farmer), her mother Mrs Boxum (52) and six siblings, Hend. (sister, 28), Hendrik (19), Grietje (17), Albt. (14), Arie (11) and Annigje (9) on the ship The Majestic from Liverpool via Queenstown (Cobh) in Ireland at Ellis Island, New York. Their destination was Cawker City, Mitchell County, located in the northern part of Kansas.

In 1899 she married in Kansas to Hendrik Jan Van Leeuwen, also born in the Netherlands.

In 1900 they lived in Smith County, northwest of Cawker City, likely in or near Dispatch.

In 1920 they lived in Sioux County, Iowa.

In 1935 and 1940 they reside in Rock Valley, Sioux County, Iowa. In 1940 her 75 years old husband Hendrick J van Leeuwen has no farm or job there.
