He was born on Oct. 17, 1910, in Stockbridge, a son of the late Nicholas and Gertrude (Diedrich) Franzen. On Nov. 24, 1937, he married Eleanor Penning at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.
He and his wife farmed in the Town of Stockbridge all of his life. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, Stockbridge Senior Citizens, Catholic Order of Foresters, of which he held an office, and was a member of the Calumet County Soil and Water Conservation Committee. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, playing sheepshead, sturgeon spearing, and especially driving his Massey-Ferguson tractor.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; one daughter, Joan (Glen) Heimermann of Chilton; two sons, Jerry (Glenny Whitcomb) Franzen of Chilton and Robert (JoAnn) Franzen of Chilton; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a daughter-in-law, Betty Franzen; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Adeline Franzen; and a sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Eugene Elmergreen.
Services: Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, with the Rev. Leander Nickel officiating. Visitation: From 4 p.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Wieting Funeral Home of Chilton is serving the family.
