Doris was born in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward Henry and Henrietta (Wiegleb) Flynn. She graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago in January 1944. Doris worked for the Chicago Library District at Navy Pier, where she met her husband-to-be, James F. Doughty, while he was attending University of Illinois at Navy Pier. After his graduation, they moved to Peoria and were married in November 1952.
Doris was an enthusiastic volunteer and very generous of her time and talents for many organizations while homemaking and caring for her husband and two daughters in East Peoria.
She joined East Peoria Women's Club in 1969, served two terms as president and over 10 years as treasurer. She became a member of Tazewell County Home Extension in 1988 and served as secretary for many years. Doris delivered Meals on Wheels for about 5 years and enjoyed befriending those she served. She was an active volunteer on site for Red Cross Blood Drives for around 50 years. Doris served as a Scout Leader for 7 years and volunteered on various projects for about 50 years for the local council of Girl Scouts. She was an active member of the East Peoria Historical Society for many years. Doris served as a Tazewell County Election Judge for Precinct 10 from 1975-2020. She eagerly looked forward to seeing her many friends each Election Day.
Doris was known as an excellent cook and collector of all things depicting clowns. She liked to read, do jigsaw puzzles, create craft projects and needlework, and travel with her family.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband in 2011, her sister Marie Thompson of Tustin, California, and her brother Edward Flynn Jr. of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Andretti of Nevada and Debra Bolter of Tennessee, as well as four nieces and two nephews.
At her request, there will be no funeral. Doris will rest in peace next to her husband in Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.
