Ota F. Woodyard, 75, prominently known citizen of Palestine, died suddenly at his home about 5 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 1967. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

Born in Wirt County October 16, 1891, he was a son of the late C.N. and Elizabeth Gault Woodyard.

He was a rural mail carrier out of the Palestine Post office until his retirement in 1962. Mr. Woodyard attended the Bethesda Baptist Church and the Antioch Baptist Church on Lynn Camp, Wirt County. He was a member of Wirt Masonic Lodge No. 82, A.F. & A.M., and of Palestine Council No. 33, Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of The American Legion.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Grace Gibson Woodyard; one son, Orlando G. Woodyard of Vienna; one daughter, Miss Helen Woodyard, at home; one brother, Holly Woodyard, Elizabeth; and one granddaughter, Debra Sue Woodyard, Vienna.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Jan. 6, from the Chapel of Pomroy Funeral Home with the Rev. S. Ward Robinson and the Rev. C.M. Parsons officiating. Interment was made in the Elizabeth K. of P. Cemetery.
