Calvin D. Whitney, 86, of Rogue River died Sunday, June 15, 1997, at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens with the Rev. David Albanese officiating.

He was born on April 9, 1911, in Cottage Grove. On June 12, 1939, in Moscow, Idaho, he married the former Effie May Caldwell. He worked for the Trinity County Road Department in California, retiring in 1973. He moved to Rogue River where he lived until 1996, when he moved to Highland House Nursing Center because of his health.

Whitney enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Effie Whitney of Rogue River; two daughters, Patricia Thomas of Rogue River and Sandie Higginson of Brookings; a son, George Whitney of Iredell, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Davis of Fair Oaks, Calif., and Harriet Oaks of Durham, Calif.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
