Although FAG specifically stated (in previous "rules") that only one surname could be used in the married field, another researcher cites naming memorials via the FAG website: "Our Memorial Search will search all surnames in the last name field. Yes, you can add all married surnames in the surname field.", so have accepted this edit. Harriet Lindsay served as interim Durham Unified School District Superintendent after the death of Arent Olsen in December, 1970. Serving as district secretary for Louis Edwards and Arent Olsen she had a good grasp of district duties. With board of trustees members C. Arthur Gilman, Gus A. Gore, Richard Anderson, Donald E. Murphy, and Rodney Peterson she ran the district well.

Upon the board's appointment of Robert George Batha as Superintendent on July 1, 1971, Harriet returned to her former duties as district secretary until her retirement in 1983. - History of Durham High School, © pub 2007 by Adriana Farley, pg. 20.

A graveside service will be held for Harriet Whitney Lindsay Oaks, 85 of Durham, on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. She died April 29, 2004 at a care facility in Paradise. Harriet was born October 22, 1918 in Merrill, Oregon.

She was a long time resident of Durham and was employed by the Durham Unified School District for 29 years as the Principal's Secretary.

Following her retirement in 1983, she devoted her time to her favorite activities. She was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and camping.

Her survivors include her husband of 15 years, Harold Oaks; three grandchildren, Mike Lindsay, Lisa Melton and Chris Lindsay; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husband Charles Allen Lindsay in 1962 and her only child, Charles "Bud" Oliver Lindsay in 2003.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the Brusie Funeral Home which is handling the arrangements. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on May 4, 2004.
