Alfred Fradenburg was born in Switzerland County, Indiana March 19, 1826, died at his home on North Bridge Street, Bellaire, Mich., Thursday evening, September 17, 1908, aged 82 years, five months, 28 days.

He was married to Hester Kirkham July 27, 1849. To them were born eight children, only one of whom survives, Mrs. Pearl Allen of this place.

On the 17th day of March 1862 he enlisted in the Thirteenth Indiana Light Artillery. After serving for ten months he received an honorable discharge on account of contracted disease while in the service.

Mr. Fradenburg was converted at the age of twenty-four and for nearly three score years has led a devoted Christian life. He was remarkable for his strength of character and virtue. His aged wife, daughter, and grandchildren have sustained a great loss and have the profound sympathy of the community. He has gone and you are left in loneliness and sorrow, but yours is a sorrow brightened by the rainbow of gospel hope which spans the empire of death and the grave; you weep, but he rejoices; you are in sorrow, but his tears are wiped; you walk among the shadows, but he dwells in the cloudless light of God's own face; you view celestial things "through a glass darkly," but he has gone to be "forever with the Lord."

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the M. E. church, Rev. L. A. Kirkland of the Congregational Church officiating. The music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. E. Hemstreet; Mrs. Jas. Deevy and George and Rudolph Bechtold, Mrs. Seward playing at the organ. Internment was in Lake View cemetery.

Alfred was the son of Jacob and Martjte (Van Dusen) Fredenburgh. Both parents died in Jefferson County, Indiana.
