"Together Forever"
Iona Barber Verholtz, age 95, passed away in California December 16, 2003.
She was born May 23, 1908 in Manassa Conejos, Colorado to John Barber & Claudia May Massey, the second of seven children. They moved around many times through the years and so she was raised as a child in Roosevelt, Utah. She attended school to the ninth grade before she fell in love and married Edward John Verholtz from the town of Myton, Utah. Their marriage was sealed on December 4, 1968 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He passed away in 1985.
They raised their five children, as well as their grandson, Gary Verholtz. She is survived by two daughters, Hershella Delliskave (Beaumont, CA) and Bonnie Mary Sorenson (Claremont, CA); 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren, and 57 great-great-grandchildren. At one time there were six generations. She is also survived by her brother, Voyle (Bud) Barber (Kihei, HI) and sister, Marieda Verney (Salt Lake City, UT). She was preceded in death by two sons, Dean and Merlin, and one daughter, Deon.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Murray City Cemetery.
