DIES ON FARM WHERE HE LIVED FOR FIFTY YEARS
Gulbrant (sic) Rudie, pioneer settler of Manitowoc county died today in the
home north of the city which he had occupied for more than fifty years
continuously. Death came as result of an illness of more than two years duration,
caused by paralysis and other ailments. Mr. Rudie was 88 years of age.
Decedent was a native of Norway, born May 7, 1835 and came to Manitowoc county
in 1872 with his wife and three children, the wedding of the couple having taken
place in Norway 63 years ago. Mrs. Rudie survives her husband, together with
seven children, Mrs. Thorval Saatrud, Carlstead, Minn.; Holsten Rudie, Gillett;
Knut Rudie, Milwaukee, John of Two Rivers, Mrs. Hannah Kirkevold and Oscar at
the home farm and Mrs. Lars Aslackson, this city.
The Rudie home, where Mrs. Kirkevold took care of her father during his last years,
is located two and one-half miles north of the city. Mr. Rudie was employed in the
building of the North Western railway line between this city and Two Rivers when it
was constructed years ago.
Mr. Rudie was a member of the First Lutheran church and up to his illness was active
in the church. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but the Rev. Ristad will
officiate.
