Mattie Mae was born in N. Louisiana, the daughter of John Perry Brown and Hattie C. Bryan Brown - she had two brothers, John Perry (Archie) Brown, Jr. and Shannon George Brown. She and her husband Jimmy (James Reece) Pilcher lived in the small town of Tullos, LA in LaSalle Parish next door to her Aunt Fannie and Fannie's husband, Harold Williams - and across the street from H.G. Williams Motor Co. Children - James Brownie, Gloria Jean (Nelson) and "Sonny", (Harold Reece). Sonny was tragically drowned in an oil rig accident in 1964 near Morgan City, LA. James Browne became a prominent lawyer in Atlanta GA, and Gloria Jean married Jackie Nelson and now lives in Waskom, TX.

Mrs. Mattie Mae Pilcher, 54, of Tullos, died at 3:30 am Tuesday, May 2, 1967, at Columbia Heights Hospital in Columbia.

Mrs. Pilcher was a widow. She was buried at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 3rd, following services in Tullos, First Baptist Church. The Revs. Coda Salter and Ed Dearmon officiated at the rites.

Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery near Pineville, with arrangements by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Jena. Graveside services were held by the ministers.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Gloria Jean Nelson Shreveport; one son, James of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, John P. Brown of Shreveport; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Cassel, Sam Evans, Marshall Gates, C. D. Harter, Jimmy Barton, C. S. Wiggins, Fritz Sagdahl.

(On her obituary her age was 54 but she was actually just days short of her 60th birthday.)
