AN OLD SETTLER GONE
We sincerely regret to announce that Hon. Fred Borcherdt, of Manitowoc,
U. S. Consul to Leghorn, Italy, recently died unexpectedly at his post
in the sunny clime of southern Europe. The deceased was one of the
early settlers of Manitowoc and prior to his departure for Europe was
editor in chief of the Manitowoc Tribune. He was an honest upright
man, a kind husband, an affectionate and indulgent father, an obliging
neighbor, a true friend and a first class citizen and although he has
passed from Earth to Heaven his Christian example, benevolent course,
wise counsel and kind acts will never be forgotten. In common with
the vast multitude who knew and appreciated his sterling worth we drop
a tear to his memory and tender the bereft family our heartfelt sympathy,
as we always recognized Mr. Borcherdt as one of the best and truest
friends of our boyhood days.
