Der Nord Westen, 30 Jan. 1902: "Fred Borcherdt died Mon. in the state mental facility in Oshkosh. The deceased, who had been born here as a son of Consul Fred Borcherdt, operated a cigar business here for many years until he was taken to the state mental facility a few years ago. He is survived by his widow and 2 children as well as several brothers and sisters."

FRED BORCHERDT (d. 1913)
Frederick Borcherdt, aged 86 years, died Sunday at his home, 113 South thirteenth street. He had been in poor health for two yeas and had been confined to his bed most of the time.Mr. Borcherdt was born in Germany March 31, 1827, where he was married to Minnie Meisner in 1853. They came to this country in 1856 and located in Manitowoc the same year. Mr. Borcherdt engaged in the contracting and teaming business and for years was one of the leading contractors of the city, retiring several years ago on account of failing health. Mr. Borcherdt was a pioneer settler of the city and had a large acquaintance and was held in esteem by all who knew him.He is survived by his wife and four children, John Borcherdt of Chicago, F.C. Borcherdt, Mrs. Augusta Baetke and Mrs. Reiland, of this city. Twenty-five grand children and four great grandchildren also survive him.The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from St. Johannas Evangelical church.
