Blyth ended his 32-year career with the Marines when he retired in 1974. He later became commandant of cadets at the Marine Military Academy at Harlingen, Tex., but he resigned that position last year and moved to Arkansas.
In addition to the Marine's Prayer, Blyth wrote a number of articles for professional military magazines. He received the Silver Star for gallantry in action in Korea, the Legion of Merit for his service in Vietnam and two Purple Hearts for action in Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
