STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- John Seton, 65, of Midland Beach, a retired marshal and firefighter for the FDNY and a retired police officer, died Friday at home.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he later moved to Tottenville. Mr. Seton also lived in New Dorp before settling in Midland Beach in 1966.

Mr. Seton worked for eight years as a city firefighter, assigned to Ladder 122 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, before being to promoted to fire marshal. He worked out of the Bureau of Fire Investigations in Brooklyn for nine years, retiring in 1992.

Prior to that, he served as a New York City Police Officer for five years, assigned to the Fifth Precinct in Manhattan.

Mr. Seton served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marines from 1965 to 1969, stationed in Vietnam and Camp Elmor, Norfolk, Va.

He was a member of the FDNY union and the U.S. Marine Corps. League.

Mr. Seton graduated from New Dorp High School and attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Manhattan.

He was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary's R.C. Church, Midland Beach.

Mr. Seton enjoyed going fishing with son and spending time with his grandchildren.

"My father was a great storyteller and his stories and his presence will truly be missed," said his daughter, Kimberly Barcia.

Along with his daughter, Kimberly, also surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Nielsen; one son, John, and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Hanley Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary's Church. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
