Susanne was born and raised in Rohrbach, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia, and married Andreas Mitzel March 21, 1883, in Russia. The couple made their home in Rohrbach, and raised their family there until they came to the United States about 1913. Arriving in South Dakota, they settled on a farm near Artas in Campbell County.
