Andreas was born in Johannesthal, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia, to Jacob and Rosina Mitzel. He married Susanne Hochhalter March 21, 1883, in Rohrbach, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia. They made their home and raised their children there until they came to America about 1913. They settled near Artas in Campbell County, South Dakota.

Andrew Mitzel died Sunday in the Eureka hospital, age 89. His first and second wife preceded him in death, the second within the first week of marriage in Herreid.
Survivors are his third wife, one son Edward of Mound City, also other children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services are today at the Artas Evangelical church. Burial in the Artas cemetery.
