ARTHUR M. ‘JEFF' BARTO, 77 of Camptown, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 19, 1988 at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1910 in Penn Township, Lycoming County, the son of the late Calvin Barto and the former Olive Seid. Mr. Barto was employed as a farmer for several years, an occupation which he enjoyed. He did most of his farming on the Browning, Kennedy and Taylor farms in the Wyalusing area. He was also employed more recently as a Wyalusing Township supervisor, an occupation which he held for 23 years. In May of 1950, he married the former Elva Whitmiller. Mr. Barto was a member of the Camptown Odd Fellows, a former member of the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. which he helped to get started, an active member of the Camptown Men's' Club and the Camptown Methodist Church. He considered his hobbies to be working and his garden. He was preceded in death by a son, Laverne on March 25, 1968. His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elva at home in Camptown; two sons and daughters-in-law: George and Dolores Barto of Spring Lake, and Harry and Jean Barto of Monroeton; three daughters and sons-in-law: Mrs. Richard (Betty) Bates of Stevensville, Mrs. Earl (Shirley) Rockwell of West Burlington and Mrs. Carl (Bonnie) Mader of Camptown; three brothers: Patrick Barto, Carl Barto, Calvin Barto, Jr., all of Montgomery: three sisters: Mrs. Mazie Miller, Mrs. Carson (Helen) Kreptnecht and Mrs. Richard (Kathryn) LaForme, also of Montgomery; 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call this afternoon from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Kerr Funeral Home, Church St., Wyalusing; and to attend his service on Monday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. from the Camptown Community Church with his former pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Bitler officiating. Interment will be in Camptown Cemetery. Those wishing may send donations in Mr. Barto's memory to the Towanda Memorial Hospital Memorial fund or to the Wyalusing Ambulance Association. –Towanda Daily Review.
