MCCONNELL - Beatrice Adeline McConnell, aged 100, of Grand Rapids, passed away November 1, 2011. Born November 5, 1910, to Arthur and Lizzie Martin of Ada, Bea attended Ada School, Alma High School and Western State Teacher's College. She sang and played piano for the church choir much of her life.

She met and married Russell McConnell when he was the minister of Ada Congregational Church in 1932. They lived in towns in southern Michigan as Russell served at the Congregational and United Church of Christ churches in Covert, Union City, Charlotte, Grand Rapids, and Dearborn. She and the boys lived in Charleston, SC, and Boston, MA, while Russell served as a Navy chaplain during WWII, and lived in Charleston, WV, 1963-1966 while Russell was director of the WV Council of Churches. Bea was active for years in Rotary Anns, was President of the Park Church Women in the 1970's, and served on the Board of Directors for Pilgrim Manor, where she has lived since 1990.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Miriam) McConnell of Alhambra, CA, David (Marchelle Elizabeth Libby) McConnell of Carrollton, MS, and Lloyd McConnell of Grand Rapids; daughter, Ruth (Bruce) Benson of Anchorage, AK; many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Coral, Ethel and Elsie. Memorial services will be held at Pilgrim Manor, 2000 Leonard N.E., Monday, November 7, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. In lieu of flowers you may make contributions to Pilgrim Manor Foundation or United Church Outreach Ministry.
