From YALE NEWS, SEPT. 25, 1890:
LEVI IVES BUSHNELL
It is with sincere regret that we are called upon to chronicle the sad death of Levi Ives Bushnell of the Senior Class, which occurred August 8th off Madison, Conn. He was off sailing alone not a mile from shore, and while hauling up his anchor he probably became entangled in the rope and was dragged overboard, the boat sailing ashore empty. The body was recovered near Greenport, L. I. August 15 and the funeral was held in New Haven the following Wednesday, Rev. S. C. Bushnell, Class of '74, brother of the deceased officiating. The interment was in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Bushnell had, by his uniformly kind and quiet manners, endeared himself to his class by whom his loss will be deeply and sincerely mourned. As a man, morally and spiritually, he commanded the respect of all who knew him.

A meeting of the Senior Class was held after Chapel in Dwight Hall. Mr. Noyes presided. The following resolutions were adopted:

WHEREAS, it has pleased God in His infinite wisdom to remove from our number Levi Ives Bushnell our classmate and fellow, therefore be it Resolved that our class in sorrow at his loss extend our sincere sympathy to those bereaved.

And be it further Resolved that these Resolutions be sent to his family and that they be published in the College papers. Committee: H. H. Tweedy, A. G. Robinson, H. C. White.
