Lingering Illness
Is Fatal To Well
Known Farmer

John Appler, 83, well known farmer of this community, passed away at his home southwest of Moulton yesterday (Wednesday) about noon following a lingering illness. Mr. Appler had been bedfast for the past three years the result of a stroke. His condition has been considered critical for about three weeks. Ailing health curtailed many of Mr. Appler's activities for the
past eighteen years.
He was born at Keokuk, Iowa, and moved to Moulton when about twenty-five years old. He has made this community his home since that time. He was married to Mary Black some 48 years ago and to this union five children were born, one son dying at the age of 10 years .
Those left to mourn his departure are the devoted wife, two sons, C. W., of Cushing, Okla., and Glenn, of Moulton; two daughters, Mrs.
Lelah Staley, of near Centerville, and Mrs. Mamie Henshaw, of Leavenworth, Kans. Two great grandchildren and sixteen grandchildren
besides other relatives and a host of friends are also left to mourn his passing.
Mr. Appler was a member of the Presbyterian church and when his health permitted participated in its religious and social activities. He had been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 55 years.
Deceased is perhaps one of the community's best known men. He made countless friends who feel that in the passing of John Appler they have lost a true and tried friend.
He was patient in his suffering and rarely complained of the illness which caused his retirement from active life.
No definite funeral arrangements have been made but it is understood that services will be held Friday afternoon.
A more complete obituary will appear in the Tribune next week.
