John L, their first born child, was born in Georgia on March 3, 1862; Francis Jane was born on January 12, 1866 in Louisiana, nine months after the end of the Civil War. Washington enlisted in Company E, Georgia 46th Infantry Regiment on 04 Mar 1862, the day after his first child was born. He was in for the duration of the war as he mustered out at the end of the war on 26 Apr 1865 at Greensboro, NC. His Regiment took part in conflicts in Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
Washington died on May 6, 1922, in Choudrant, Louisiana, at the age of 81, and was buried in Calhoun, Louisiana.
