MARTHA M. MCCALLA (McColla, McCauley, or McCaula) Emory was born on 12 December 1841 in Harris County, Georgia to John McCalla and Anna Ingrams. Eight months before the start of the Civil War on 02 April 1860, she married Washington Lafayette Emory. He was born on 11 August 1840 in La Grange, Troup County. His parents were Samuel Aurelius Emory and Susan Elizabeth (Harrison) Emory. Washington died on 06 May 1922 in Choudrant, Lincoln, Louisiana.

Martha and Washington were both born in Georgia and lived there during the Civil War. By January 1866, eight months after the end of the war, they had moved to Louisiana by where their second child was born on January 12, 1866.

Washington Lafayette Emory and Martha M. McCalla had eight children:
John L married Willie J. M. Brady;
Francis Jane married Goodwin Moore;
George Harrison married Rebecca Wade
Madaline married Walter Elliot;
William L. married three times Jeannie Pardue, Nettie Edmiston and Ola Edmiston
Lillie L married Clarence (Touse) Aswell),
Clyde B. married Ethyl Hammett;
Fred Carl married Ruth Hogan.

Martha McCalla Emory died on 21 Dec 1921 in Choudrant, Lincoln, Louisiana at the age of 80.

The Louisiana State Death Certificate Index states her name as Mattie McColla Emory. It shows her parents' names as John McCalla and Anna Ingrans [Ingrams?].
