Elem E. Freeman was born in his parent's home at 417 Pear St., Reading, PA, delivered by Dr. J. H. Hacker who had an office located at 344 N. 6th St. in Reading. A Navy veteran of WWI, Elem served on the U.S.S. Seattle and the U.S.S. Susquehanna. He was employed as a Glidden paint mixer at SCL Division, Durkey, Reading, PA, retiring in 1965. Raised a family of 6 sons and 7 daughters during the Great Depression. Skilled painter and paper hanger, and general Jack-Of-All-Trades.
