Herbert Harmon Stark was born Oct. 5, 1872 at Rowley, Iowa and died March 10, 1938 at the age of sixty-five years, three months, and fourteen days.
He was the son of Harmon and Mary Jane Stark. His mother died when he was a baby and he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, James and Adah Maitland.
At the age of twenty-nine, on Feb. 12, 1902, he was united in marriage to Lida Kippell. To this union were born five children, two dying in infancy.
He lived in Illinois until 1909 at which time he moved to Missouri. Except for 5 years spent in Iowa he has made his home near La Plata.
He became a member of the Methodist Church in La Plata in 1914. He was a member of the Sycamore I.O.O.F. Lodge.
He is survived by his loving wife, three children, Mrs. R.N. Evans, La Grange IL., Marshall of Bevier and Lillian at home; two grandchildren, Nedra and Phyliss Stark, his step-mother, Mrs. Susan Stark, Kingston, IL.; one sister, Mrs. Ed Buxton, Vintin, Iowa; two half brothers, Henry Stark of Kingston, IL and Ray Stark of Boise, ID; one brother by adoption, E.P. Maitland of La Plata, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Rev. McGrew of Callao and the pastor, E.S. Havighurst, officiated at the funeral services held at the Methodist Episcopal Church here at Monday afternoon at 2:00. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery.
