Daniel was born February 18, 1920 in Brigham City, Utah to Arthur Benjamin and Ruth Kemp Clinger. He was the eldest of eleven children, four brothers and six sisters, all of whom adored him. He was a wonderful big brother and dutiful son. He was raised in San Diego, California.
After returning from military service in the U.S. Army Air Forces at the close of WWII and serving in the Eastern Central States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Daniel was married to his life long companion and sweetheart Billie Marie. They were sealed on June 20, 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and resided thereafter in Southern California where they raised their six children. Daniel was a devoted husband and wonderful father.
Daniel received a degree in mechanical engineering from UCLA and worked as a design engineer for McDonnell Douglas and the Atomics International division of North American Rockwell.
He had many interests including gardening, photography, lapidary, guns, building projects, camping, hiking, fishing and boating.
Daniel's whole life was devoted to service.
He was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many ways during his life, including twice as Bishop and many years as a Stake Patriarch.
Throughout his life, Daniel's greatest service and devotion were given to his family.
Daniel is survived by his wife and his children (and spouses): Daniel H. Clinger (Sue) of Woodland Hills, CA, Ruth Gulden (Steve) of Simi, CA, Mark Clinger (Rachel) of Gettysburg, PA, Virginia Owen (Rick) of Anchorage, AK, Naomi Allen (Bob) of SLC, UT, and Christianne Cox (David) of SLC, UT. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 siblings.
