Al Jolson Rooks, Sr., 77, of Sumter, SC, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center of Sumter, SC.
Al was born in Pender Co., NC on July 10, 1935, the son of the late Mjor Allison and Sabrey Sikes Rooks. He was preceded in death by a brother, Melza Allison Rooks and a sister, Nancy Carol Rooks Rushing.
He leaves behind his two sons, Al Jolson Rooks, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Sumter, SC and William "Billy" Allison Rooks of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandsons, Christopher, Adam, Joey, and B.J. Rooks all of Sumter, SC; one granddaughter, Renee Rooks Elvis and husband, Joey of Myrtle Beach, SC; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis Rooks of Rocky Point, NC and Richard Rooks of Wilmington, NC; two sisters, Irma Rooks Keith of Wilmington, NC and Virginia Rooks Sanderson of Myrtle Beach, SC; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and lots of friends.
Memorial services were held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, July 7, 2012 at his church, Promiseland Baptist Church in Sumter, SC by Rev. Jamie Mcelleam.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Rooks Cemetery beside Riley's Creek Baptist Church, 19845 NC Highway 210, Rocky Point, NC. Better known at Clarks Landing Road in Pender County.
