Richard Robert Rooks, 83 of Wilmington passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Center in Wilmington. Mr. Rooks was born in Pender County, NC on May 3, 1931. He was the son of the late Major Allison Rooks and Sabrey Sikes Rooks. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Rushing and two brothers, Melza Rooks and Al Rooks; also his loving wife, Barbara Ann Freeman Rooks who passed less than a year ago. Mr. Rooks was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church were he was an usher. He served honorably in the US Navy during the Korean war. After being in the navy he owned and operator a trucking company; he was a member of American Legion Post 10. Survivors include a daughter,Loyce- Ann Rooks Abernathy and husband Tom and their children, Thomas Abernathy and Cole Abernathy; sons, Richard Robert Rooks, Jr. and George Travis Rooks and wife Lynne and their children, Kristina, Katherine and Michael all of Wilmington; one brother, Lewis Rooks; two sisters, Irma Keith and Virginia Sanderson; brother-in-law, Charles Smith. A graveside Memorial service will be Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Riley's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Father Vic Frederiksen officiating.
