Frostburg--John William Brode, 56, Hoffman, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, where he had been a patient since January 11. He had been in failing health the past several months. Mr. Brode was employed as chief clerk to the Allegany County Roads Department. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Born in Hoffman, he was a son of the late Philip and Elizabeth (Sleeman) Brode. Surviving are his widow, Mary (Wagus) Brode; two daughters, Miss Ellen Lee Brode, LaVale, Miss Jaren Sue Brode, at home; a stepdaughter, Miss Mary Frances Crowe, at home; a son, John W. Brode, Jr., at home; four brothers, Carl, Harold and Philip Brode, Hoffman; and Jennings Brode, Clarysville; two sisters, Mrs. Earl Michaels, Eckhart, and Mrs. Raymond Kallmyer, Clarysville. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home.
