KENNETH B. WHITE

Kenneth Benjamin White, son of Thomas Benjamin White and Nettie Loma (Troyer) White was born in Lucas County on January 30, 1916 and passed away at Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa on July 28, 2012, at the age of 96 years.

Kenneth married Marlene Ashby March 6, 1937 in Chariton, Iowa and together they began their lives farming in the Lucas County area. Marlin Eugene was born in 1939 and Linda Kay joined the family in 1941. Settling on a farm in English Township, they became involved with many farm organizations through the years with 4-H being very important to the family.

Kenneth was involved with the building of the present fairgrounds, which at the time was the Lucas County Achievement Show. He always enjoyed seeing young people's achievements at fair time. The growing of crops and care of animals were a very important part of Kenneth's life. He truly loved tinkering on his machinery, even rebuilding his old Ford tractor, a very proud accomplishment to him.

Kenneth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chariton, in which he served on several boards. The love of remodeling homes, be it for his family and in later years, his grandchildren, kept him very busy. However, during this time, he managed to build a home for he and Marlene to enjoy for many years to come.

The love of travel was very much a part of their lives as they spent winters in Arizona and California. The fall of 2011, Kenneth and Marlene moved to Northridge Assisted Living Center in Chariton. March 6, 2012, they celebrated 75 years of marriage.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Marlene, son, Marlin (Linda), daughter, Linda (Bob) Halden, grandchildren, Mark, Tim and Kevin White, Heidi Moore, Jay and Kent Halden, great-grandchildren, Brian, Andrea, Brett, Tori, Brittany and Ty White, Jillian and Schuyler Moore, Connor and Olivia Halden, and great-great-grandchildren, Brandt Kenneth and Norah White.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny White and sister, Marie King.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Wiese officiating. Music was provided by organist Colene Black and vocalist George Moore. Serving as bearers were: Mark White, Jay Halden, Tim White, Kent Halden, Kevin White and George Moore. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
